Anti-Aging Tips for Ethnic Skin

As one of 180 specialists nation-wide that primarily focuses on corrective procedures on ethnic skin, I believe in preventative measures. Preventative measures are likely to cost at least 50% less than corrective procedures. That being said, I challenge you to review your current skincare routine and if adjustments need to be made – I challenge you to do so immediately, to prevent you from having to pay some ungodly amount of money to fix challenges, later.

WHAT IS ETHNIC SKIN?

Ethnic skin is any skin type that produces higher levels of melanin. African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Africans, Middle Easterners, etc… have ethnic skin. The reason this is important is because if you are producing higher levels of melanin, and whatever you are doing is drying out your skin, you have a greater chance of seeing wrinkles or hyperpigmentation. You may also see craters in your skin especially if you wear makeup. Wearing makeup can clog your pores and leave your skin susceptible to a lot of damage if you are not taking proper care of your skin.

WHAT IS ETHNIC SKINCARE?

Ethnic skincare is more related to the ingredients in the products than a specific product line. That being said, if you have quality ingredients, you should receive quality results from your skincare products.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR ETHNIC SKIN LOOKING YOUNG

First Step: Oil Cleanse

The first step in the Esthetics by P Bown's method to younger looking skin includes an oil cleanse, especially if you wear makeup, because it preps your skin for any corrective measures to follow. This can easily be done at home.  Simply go buy a cold-pressed Omega-3 oil. It's important for you to feed your skin, it’s the largest organ on your body.

Practical Application: When you are applying the oil to your face, you want to let it sit for 1-2 minutes so the oil has time to break down the dirt and debris. Be sure to massage the oil on like a mask, maybe put your hair up, get in the shower, brush your teeth, or whatever you routinely do, proceed so the oil has time to break down the dirt, the makeup, the debris or anything that is on your skin.

Side note: I like to use cold pressed rosemary, thyme, and aloe vera – I break open the leaves and actually use the natural aloe vera. If you’re a client here, then you know I will frequently pull out my mask machine and custom make a collagen mask for you-using natural ingredients.

Second Step: Exfoliation

Exfoliation will have you looking like you are age 20 at age 40. Exfoliation will turn back time. You cannot have old dead skin cells sitting on your face and expect to look vibrant and hydrated – it cannot happen without exfoliation. In my professional opinion, I do not agree with a constant use of scrubs. For ethnic skin, depending on the granule of the scrub, it will cause microscopic cuts.

What do you mean, Porsche??? I mean, if you have a microscopic cut where the healing process was not controlled, it may not show up immediately, but it will show up 4 weeks from the original day. When you are using the scrub – every day or using a clarisonic brush that has thick bristles – every day, you may notice a month later that a hyperpigmentation spot (popped up) that you’d never seen before. I know it may seem like it does, but hyperpigmentation does not pop up the day after the damage, it takes time.

Side bar: Your body goes through a healing cycle that on average takes about 28 days. So, every 28 days you have new skin cells and a new face. If you are not properly exfoliating, hydrating, and nourishing, your skin, then you are not putting those new skin cells in a position to do great things on your face.

Third Step: Cleanse Your Face

A good cleanser is dependent on your pH levels. If you are not sure what cleanser you need, call me and schedule a virtual consultation.

Side note: I have gotten to the point where virtual consultations are one of my #1 most requested services, mostly because I can type a skin at 90% accuracy. I’m also a nurse, so in my head I’m seeing the anatomy of your skin – I’m seeing the chemistry and the biology going on. Those skills contribute to my accuracy.

That being said, you may not need a cleanser with an AHA or BHA in it, you may not need acids, what you may need is that CBD oil cleanser that is extremely amazing on inflammation and bringing down and calming the skin.

Using the right products is what will make the difference between you looking 20 years old at 40 or you looking 55 years old at 35. And I want to help you stop spending your money on products that are not designed for the uniqueness of your skin. Do you know why I don’t have a $300 skin care routine, for you?

No… why Porsche? Because it’s my mission to reach every working woman or man and a $300 skincare routine is not affordable to everyone. Helping people become comfortable in their skin - is my passion. At Esthetics by P Brown, we provide holistic skincare that allows working people and professionals to visually position themselves to walk into his/her destiny.

I take skincare personally and I join each of my clients on the journey from the first to the 18,000th and I will take the journey with you, too. Call me so we can start the process, I’ll be waiting to hear from you.
